I've just spent an entertaining afternoon helping out a Stratos owner by telling him some of the 'tweaks' and handling tips we use in the 2000.
Most useful seems to be making sure to take up all the slack in the gennaker halyard before you release it from the cleat on the drop. Also, not flying the tack of the gennaker tight to the end of the pole. Helps the sail twist off and allows you to reach/run deeper.
One thing mystifies me. Where are you supposed to tie off your forestay? On the 2000 we have a convenient fairlead at the mast foot, but our mast is deck stepped.
He commented that the flotation in the sail was not enough to stop the boat inverting and I told him about tying an empty plastic container (one of the ones with a small handle) to the top of the sail instead. Not pretty, and too much windage for racing, but effective.
There is no planned answer to tying off the forestay that I know of. I just tie it off on the deck at the front of the mast.
How do you attach the tack of the mainsail on the 2000? I've started to not connect it to the boom on my Stratos but instead feed the cunningham thru, this means I can get the mainsail to the very top of the mast.
I tie off the forestay to the fairlead for the gennaker shockcord. It feeds down the gap beside the mast just fine. I wouldn't reccomend leaving it out on the foredeck, it's something else for you gennaker to get snarled on when gybing!
As for mainsails, I suspect there may be a little variation in the cut.... I can get mine to the top of the mast no problem, and use the tack pin.. so long as the clew outhaul is slack.
As for the padded bit... useless! just be quicker going over the side! Not much help in wind against tide tho' unless you're very quick
Does anyone else race in a mixed fleet? I'm still finding my handicap too high at 1080, moving it down to 1075 for the next series..
