Bear off, slowly at first, try not to lose speed.. gybe with the smallest amount of rudder. It's a brake! As soon as you call 'gybing! the crew must start to pull in the new gennaker sheet as fast as possible. It helps to pull in an armfull of the old sheet just before this to flatten the kite behind the jib and knock some air out of it. Uncleat the jib just before all this too and let it come round. On the helm, don't try to point high again until the sail is set and the crew in control.
The main points are:- smallest possible gybe angle, least ammount of rudder, pull the new kite sheet hard, fast and earlier than you think it should. Don't wait forthe kit to collapse, it just ties itself in a knot!
Hope this helps
Cheers

I would add that if it has twisted thru the gybe just gybe straight back, this normally removes the twist. Then start again..... |
