Have recently purchased a Laser Keel which has been 'fiddled with' had basic fittings removed s/s hoop, short spar at bow with furling gear and generally not well looked after.
However, my current problem is finding out what should be stuck in the recess that runs around the top part of the c/b that stops the water from slopping in or pouring into the cockpit when moving at speed.
I have looked at the Stratos Keel Parts locator and also tried Sailboats.co.uk but they don't know and are not interested in helping!
Any thoughts/advice on what should be used or what could be used.
Many thanks
Richard
P.S If you know of the whereabouts of a spare spar for the bow or a s/s hoop for mainsheet please drop me a line.

Hi Richard, I am going through a similar process with a centre boat version that I have just bought from our club but have all the bits I need. We have a couple of keel versions at our club so I am going to have a peak and chat to those guys to see if they know the part your explaining. There are some good pictures of the top of the keel box arrangment in the pdf document I found on the net at the link below. This may help you? http://lasersailing.ch/newpage/Anleitungen/Laser%20Stratos.pdf
Cheers, Keith. |

Keith,
Yes, the red buffer stops are for the Keel.

Many thank for your steer to Sppedsails. It looks like that have most parts itemised.
I have the red buffer stops, but the part that I am missing is the white sticky backed strip of material that is wrapped aroung the recess near the top of the keel.
I had hoped to include a picture but I dont think I can do this on here. However, the top left photo on Page 27 in the Manual (thanks haroosh)show the strip quite clearly - but not clearly enough to make out what it is made of.
I guess it might be could be used on some other dinghies, but it not something I have come across, or maybe it has another more well known application.
The good news is that I have tracked down a spar for the bows/furling gear and so I am now only left seeking the s/s/ hoop. The previous owner had used it as part of a temporary fence to keep his goats in - and in smashing it into the ground with a heavy hammer had flattened the top! Can you believe it?
