Hi, I just wanted to ask if I have been unlucky. I bought a Stratos new in September and when it was delivered the hull was poorly finished. A small nick in the stern and various places around the hull where is was very roughly finished. Laser took it back and returned it a week later in good condition. The next thing was a hole appearing in the hull while I was moored at a jetty. The gelcoat had punctured and showed the matting below. The gelcoat was like an eggshell, and Laser told me this was an air pocket that had occured during manufacture. They have now had the boat for two weeks. Is it a Friday afternoon boat or is this normal? Thanks Norman
Well guess what, I received the new hull and the finish on bow was poor, the blue coating looked as though it was not sprayed on properly, there was a mist apperance of normal gelcoat colour. So the blue was shady instead of being solid. Am I being to picky? or am I just unlucky? or what? Norman
Hi Norman I purchased a new Stratos center board version last Feb 2005 so far it has been back to Laser at least several times for the following. Centre board not holding down Centre board case parting company from the hull I have had to replace the auto drain flaps not fitted correctly I have had gell coat cracks appear (repaired on site) There has been air bubbles under gell coat (repaired on site) Genaker has been replaced damaged from poor fitting bolts in shute area. All of the above have been repaired by Performance sail craft with out a problem but they seem to have a Quality issue. I am very pleased with the performance of the Stratos but have lost a fair bit of sailing time. So you are not the only one having problems i just hope mine are finished. As far as i was told these hulls are now produced in the far east. Regards Philip
