Has anybody had the gunnel protection strip fitted to there Stratos, I
have been offer the white protection strip and would like to know if
it has any adverse affect and does it stop the chipping of the edges?

The rubber band for gunnel protection does a great job in preventing chipping. If your launching close to other boats and/or tie up to a pontoon of some sort then they are well worth putting on.
The only effect on performance should be the additional weight gained by having them. They should not induce drag as you should not be sailing at such an angle of heel.

I haven't had it fitted as it was a hugely expensive after sales cost. However I wish I had one as many dinghy club floating pontoons are just the right height off the water to catch under it and grind bits out of the gell coat. Our Gunnels are getting quite chipped so i'm looking for a reasonably priced supply of grey rubber section to fit the Strat. If anyone knows of a supplier who doesn't need to make a whole year's profit of one sale I'd be grateful for a tip off!

I have been offered the strip from Lasers independant repair man
based at Banbury its cost would be about £250.00 fitted, he also
does Gell coat repairs for laser and indepedantly.
The warranty repars i have has done were good, our landing stages
are just the correct height to chip the edges, thats why i was
trying to find out if anybody else has had it fitted. Unfortunately
the only colour is white and it would be glued to the gunnel.
Rob Gutteridge at Laser would have the contact details i have lsot
his business card.
Regards
Philip

Mark,

I looked at this strip, which Adrian can fit at Banbury, his email
is adrian@glassfibresolutions.co.uk

It is a soft white plastic strip, and it is glued and screwed in
place, and would not be removable once fitted. Given its soft nature
and white colour, I suspect that it will look very tatty in a few
weeks, and once on that it!

I have just decided to be more carefull on the jetty.

I've heard of a chandlery in the Christchurch area which does a selection of fendering. Next time I'm in that area I will go and have a look. If any of it looks useable I'll post the details. Certainly plastic will not serve well. It needs to be rubber (similar to RIB Fenders but smaller) and grey rather than white. It has occurred to me to try some RIB Tube fabric and glue it on with tube adhesive. That would give a thin, lightweight but tough edging to the rolled edge. I guess it would take some practice to get a neat, straight appearance.
