I'm looking at buying a Stratos but am looking for some hints of things to look for when buying one. Can anyone give me any pointers as to what I need to look for.

Thanks

Nick

Nick.....

Other than the normal checks on the sails, foils and spars for condition I personally can't think of anything specific for the Stratos in terms of major defects to look out for. There was some talk a few years ago about some boats taking on water but that does not seem to have developed into a significant issue.

I have had mine for about 5 years and it is an 'older' one (270) and to be honest despite much use in all conditions, mainly coastal, the only thing that has ever let down was when my main halyard broke whilst sailing through moorings in a strong tide ! (challenging moment!)...I have had a u bolt go recently on my 5000 on the shroud (similar to the stratos) which can be interesting so if you are buying a boat that has been in salt water worth checking before you go out......the one issue some have had problems with are broken rudder pintles....Worth checking the jib halyard as these can be a nuisance to replace if they go....all of these of course are not necessarily specific to the Stratos and are easily fixable.

I my opinion the hulls are pretty bullet proof and a good check should reveal any major defects. Main thing is its a really good boat and will give you lots of pleasure.....

Cheers

Neil
