I've recently started to sail a Stratos centreboard. Is there a technique for bringing in the spinnaker without dunking it in the water?

Current technique includes:
* 12" bowline on halyard (http://www.laserstratos.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=347)
* pulling in the downhaul as much as possible before releasing halyard (http://www.laserstratos.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=114)
* heaving like crazy on downhaul as soon as the halyard is released from the cleat

These things help, but I still have the spinnaker in the water before it starts coming over the gunwale and into the sock. Is there any way to get the spinnaker in without sending the crew forward to gather in the sail?

Thanks,
Vincent

Whilst not an expert we put lots of lube on the pole and around the chute, take up the slack, 2 - 3 large armfuls of halyard to get it down but prior to this give the sheet to the helm to keep it flying (Make sure the helm releases it or the crew gets very fed up).....sounds like you have everything else. We had a similar problem on our ISO which has a lower freeboard and hence we were always dropping into the water...... the thing that finally solved it was the first big armfuls of halyard, keeps the crew fit !
