I've just bought a second hand Stratos and was just wondering how anyone rolls the main with the floatation at the top without it getting all creased (and hence ruining sail shape etc )......is it really worth having as it looks pretty awful !
Neil, Don't worry about the sail shape being ruined. It already is ruined by the foam ! I always leave my main loose flaked in the boat with the foam straight. The float is optional. You can have it removed surgically or buy a new Main without one (ask for a Stratos Keel Mainsail). It does help to slow down inversion after capsize, which if you sail where it is about 6 to 10' deep like in Lymington it can save bent or broken masts. Mike.
As I have been awarded the 'capsize prize' in at least two National Championships I feel I am very qualified to comment. It is a pointless addition to the sail. It does role with it in place but the sale will become creased and it then doesn't sit very well.
I took a pair of scissors to mine and cut it out. There is no need to send it to a saimaker. It is possible to do a very good job without removing any of the stitching. If you looked at my main you would not be able to tell that it is a DIY job.

PS Just sold my boat. Continual crew problems. Getting an RS700 so expect to become even better at capsize drill!!!
If its any help I sold my boys Cadet on E bay with no problems and lots of interest...I do think E bay tends to attract bargain hunters and sometimes more expensive boats don't go as well as on something like Appolloduck
