Posted - 30 Jul 2006 : 22:45:00 I have recently bought an older Stratos (219)which has been very exciting to sail so far.
However there is a missing "stopper" below the main halyard cleat. Can anyone advise on what this fitting should be? The Laser Stratos rigging photos do not seem to show this degree of detail.
I also read another answer to queries suggesting that there should be a purchase block on the main halyard? What fittings should be used and where should they be fitted/secured?
Also the side mast stays (2 either side) often seems too loose at the recommended adjustment holes? Is it ok to just adjust until reasonably tight either side, or does the losseness mean the jib stay is too slack? Ivan Wilson. 30th July 06.

I have recently bought an older Stratos (270) so am no means an expert.........
I had no purchase block for my main halyard (entailed lots of grunt to get the main up !)so I fixed a small block under the cleat and this works very well. On mine a previous owner has fitted an extra (larger) cleat for the main which holds better but I don't think thats really necessary. I may be able to e mail a photo if you want (subject to my poor computer skills) but it might be best to wait and see what more experienced Stratos owners thoughts are !
I am still experimenting with relevant rig tensions but generally if your shrouds are loose you might need more tension on the jib....whilst there are general comments on rig tensions on this site there does not seems to be a specific tuning gude for the Stratos (unlike other classes) for different conditions etc...perhaps that is something to pick up at Class Association events......good luck
